Hello, I'm your host, Dave "Everyman" Ranck!

I created Fitness for Everyman and Woman because I wanted to share the secrets I learned in my own fitness and fat loss journey. Like many people today I was overweight and underhappy. According the American Obesity Association (AOA) approximately 127 million adults in the U.S. are overweight, 60 million obese, and 9 million severely obese ( link ). Beyond the U.S. obesity is a global epidemic and is rising. The true cost and health effects have yet to be realized. I was on my way to becoming one of these statistics. I needed to lose fat and gain fitness, and fast - I was now in my fifties. 

When I started on my journey, I had plenty of prior experience going on exercise programs and various diets - and ultimately failing at both again and again! Being the kind of person I am (I'm a software architect by trade), naturally I decided it was time to do some real research. What I found was a mass of confusing and contradictory information spread across the web, in books and weight loss programs. But, I found the secret that allowed me to once and for all conquer my own fat and fit-less-ness lifestyle: I reasoned that weight gain was not my core problem but a symptom of my real problems (yes, plural!). I knew that I had to solve the underlying problems before I could successfully and permanently address my fat loss goals. 

This is a NO-HYPE ZONE

All that hype from the diet industry is enough to make your head spin. Eat this, don't eat that, eat this amount of that and that amount of this. High protein, low carb, moderate carb, low fat, PCF ratios, the latest find in the Amazon rainforest and on and on the diet variations go. All of these methodologies can't be right? Or do they all share something in common that you are usually not being told? I have tried many of these systems and various exercise programs over the years. Oh I LOST weight --- and GAINED it back and more, over and over again. Sound familiar?

I needed straight truth to succeed not more hype and this time when I began to work on my weight problem, I quickly learned several very important principles that allowed me to ultimately succeed where I had failed again and again in the past. I've created this site, my web log, podcast and am working on an upcoming book - Everyman's Fitness - to share the simple but powerful concepts I've learned to apply that almost  guarantee success. Along the way I've met some incredible people whose advice and teaching have been instrumental in bringing my journey to the point it is today. I'd like to share what I've learned from them with you as well.
